A big steaming pile of bullshit. Losing your whole stack to a 2-outer river trips from one of PKR's infamous ubernoobs is enough to test any sane person's patience.
Rake maximisation would be PKR's incentive and poker is just numbers so you can't rule out some sophisticated - but fairly straightforward - programming to manipulate cards on-the-fly. Random number generators (RNGs) - Actually random? Or controlled by PKR to ruin every good player's day? The main problem is that poker manages Not only does this make PKR's fixing incentives doubtful - especially considering the risk involved - it also makes proof one way or the other very difficult. These PKR people created an even better way to make money from poker than playing it, so I reckon it's ok to credit them with some long-term vision. Controlling PKR to play the way it has would've been pretty dumb - it's forced away all the regulars. So PKR rigging their hands is one theory, but I have another one which doesn't involve PKR taking monumental risks for feeble short-sighted gains.. The mass of new players - more specifically the gamblers - brought in by PKR's monster marketing campaign and the inescapable low-calibre poker they bring with them means more river cards. We're talking 800lbs Loch Ness monster style deep sea fishing.. All-out gamblers are the nightmare opposition for a poker textbook. No odds are long enough for a fold - they will see the river. They do fold if they miss their gut-shot after an "improper" pot-sized call on the turn and Captain Correct-Bets has no idea as he takes down a fairly standard pot. But if the gambler hits..? Textbook Terrence's all-in after a harmless looking river with his 2 pair Aces and Jacks gets called. He sees the bad news, explodes in rage, has a seizure, swears a lot, blames PKR for bullshit cards "all the time" and then leaves for Party Poker where gamblers are regularly drowned in a sea of lock-down poker specialists. Ahh but that's the genius of the scheme!! - that's exactly how they get away with it - Winning players - of course - saying "nah it's legit, that's poker mate.." Hearing those 2 words after any minor objection to an ugly hand gets more annoying every time but it doesn't make them wrong. The reason the game's called poker is because If you win 9 straight You would've been lucky because statistically you should've lost 2 out of the 10 but unlucky because the timing of the 1 losing hand meant you lost everything. And that is poker.. You could've lost the very first 2 putting you straight out - You'd never see the other 8 you might've won because you'd have no chips left. Or in the 8 hands you would've won as a showdown, your opponent might correctly fold their lower pair after the flop, again "ruining" the statistic because you wouldn't see when it happened. That's obviously simplified to make the point but if the 10 showdowns were all slightly different - maybe AA vs KQ and you win, then KQ vs Q10 - win, AK vs. 66 - win, then QQ vs. JJ - lose - the exact odds might change but the principle's the same. If you get into 5 showdowns as an 80% And if those 4 happened to me, I know which one I'd Is it possible that PKR cross-examines the hand history and bankroll of each player at the table to calculate the most "effective" time for the 20% loss to take place? Well, yeah.. I guess it is but that's really getting a bit far-fetched.. Only the real poker players are left at PKR. "The odds of that happening are 1,000:1 and it happened twice in 3 hands.." Well, it didnt - It happened twice in however many hands there were before the first time plus however many more it takes until it happens a third time. If you dealt 10,000 hands and that same "1 in a thousand" situation occured 9 times in the first 50 and once in the other 9,950, that's statistically perfect. The timing is irregular but it's still legit. If you only see the first 50 hands of the 10,000, that's not proof. To prove you've never done anything wrong, you'll need a good memory, someone to prove it to and a lot of time to tirelessly revisit all your unfair results from which there's not a lot to learn. If in doubt, just find 5 other victims and fill a 6 seater - Someone has to win.. Think this fits in pretty well here..
